Best Study Tips For College Students

Today, I wanted to share some best study tips for students that I have learned throughout college. I feel like these tips have set me up well for college because my stress level now is relatively lower and I feel like I’ve been doing well in terms of time management and productivity compared to when I was in school and my opinion these habits are not easy to access to get 90%+ marks because it takes a lot of time and effort to be consistent in these habits and to apply them onto your study routines. As usual, most of what I see here is subjective because many of them are based on my personal experiences so just take what you need among these tips and apply it however you want onto your study plan.

5 Best Study Tips For College Students:

1- Make Proper Schedule

Study Schedule

One of the most common dilemmas that you will find yourself saying is I don’t have enough time to study and the truth is I have also said that a lot of times. But that kind of mindset is just another excuse to convince yourself that you’re not doing something wrong which in that case you probably are because when you’re making that excuse for yourself you’re probably not doing well in managing your time because you make your own time. You have full authority and control over how much time you choose to allow for every activity that you do.

Imagine if there was ever an emergency you would be able to make time for it and you would immediately know what task you could cut off. So when you’re studying you have to learn how to schedule and what to prioritize. You have to make time for you to study. Giving yourself enough time to study will help you accomplish more tasks than you can imagine and even decrease your stress levels significantly so how do I schedule?

How Do I Schedule?

I like to start from macro to micro, so the first thing that I do is to plot down any exams or tests deadline that I have for the month so I like to get an overview of my goals for the entire month. I break down the tasks that I need to do per week so that I know what to anticipate within my week. Once I have my week laid out I make sure that I have a to-do list every single day, just so I know if I’ve accomplished everything that I intend to or if I need to continue it the next day.

I am the type of person who likes structures and routines so if I don’t schedule ahead of time my mind is just all over the place. So I would highly suggest that you make time to study schedule ahead of time and know what to prioritize because in that way you can avoid cramming and doing everything to the last minute.

2- Using Resources Beyond The Textbook

Using Resources Beyond The Textbook

Studying materials other than your mandatory books and readings enables you to have a deeper understanding of what your lessons are. When I’m studying science subjects for example there are certain concepts that I didn’t understand based only on my teacher’s presentation and if that’s the case I make sure that I search on YouTube for any diagrams or illustrations that will help me understand the topic.

3- Create The Perfect Study Environment

Create The Perfect Study Environment

When I am studying and my things are just all over the place my table has so many things on it and my environment is just not the vibe that I want it to be, my mind cannot focus. You have to make sure that your environment is conducive for learning so you have to allot a certain place in your house or in your room that is dedicated as a study space. I feel like a clean and organized study space sets you up well for studying because you develop this mindset that I should be working and that I should get things done and that I should be productive and that’s what you want.

You want an environment that will motivate you and boost your productivity.

4- Organize Student Materials

Organize Student Materials

For a lot of people, organizing is one of the most dreadful tasks throughout your academic year but let’s be honest a little bit of organization can help you in more ways than you can imagine. I strongly believe that if you’re organized, you’ll be able to manage your tasks better and work around your schedule better.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a complete redo of your organization system because that can get overwhelming. Take it to step by step day by day. Have a calendar planner where you can organize your deadlines, have a filing system where you can organize your papers notes. These simple acts of organization with just a paper and folder can help you immensely

5- Stay Healthy

Stay Healthy

This last tip is the one that I would like to emphasize most of this whole article, it’s easy to disregard your physical and mental health especially when you’re busy but despite how busy you may be or how stressful your days may be, spare at least 30 minutes of your time to unwind and relax. You have to remember that you owe yourself time to rest. School, whether that be high school or college, is not easy.

I’m not going to sugarcoat anything and tell you that it’s all sunshine and butterflies because reality is going to slap you hard and tell you that that’s not the case. There will be a lot of days when you feel like everything is such a mess. You won’t get through them, you don’t know what to do and you don’t want to pursue anything anymore and the truth is that happens to everybody you can’t do everything all the time that’s a fact.

What matters is you do whatever you can as best as you can once you stop prioritizing yourself everything just goes downhill from there. So take care of yourself, believe in yourself eat healthy food, sleep well, and make sure that your health comes first before anything else.
